Grand Erie District School Board is saying goodbye to Dave Abbey, Superintendent of Education, as he prepares for his next exciting chapter: retirement.
Grand Erie District School Board students and staff are doing their part to ensure a healthier future for the planet. More than half of the board’s 72 schools were rewarded for their environmental efforts in 2018-19 with 38 earning EcoSchools Certification.
As students in the WE Club at Woodman-Cainsville Public School learned more about the clean water crisis in the developing world this past year, they wanted to do something to help the situation.
When Elizabeth Wells was a student in elementary school, a small rainbow triangle on the doors of the library caught her eye each time she walked by. It was a tiny sticker left over from the era in which the building had been a secondary school, but it made a huge difference.
“Every day, in every decision we make, our main focus is our students,” said Board Chair Greg Anderson. “At a challenging and difficult time for all school boards in Ontario, we achieved a balanced budget without having to draw on reserves, we successfully delivered on our promise to complete the financial recovery plan on time, and we kept the indicators of our Multi-Year Plan, Success for Every Student, at the forefront of our decision-making process.”
Langton School’s new playground was the talk of the town last Thursday evening during the official opening of the outdoor space, and it was a fitting celebration considering it was the town that helped make it possible.
It’s first thing in the morning, before students arrive at J.L. Mitchener Public School, and Early Childhood Educator Courtney Smith is discussing launching an ice cream business with her teaching partner, Lisa Rowntree.
Grand Erie District School Board’s Indigenous Education team, in partnership with the Grand Erie Elementary Teachers Federation, will celebrate the diverse cultures, traditions and contributions of Indigenous communities during its annual Sharing Our Voices gala at the Sanderson Centre on Thursday, June 20.
“Just as we encourage students to explore and experiment with technology, we want to encourage teachers to do the same,” says Miriam LaPeare, Ed Tech Itinerant Teacher, Elementary School Support. “This is a chance to try out some of the tech, play with it, and feel more empowered in using technology to enhance student learning.”
