Supporting Students and Staff Through Protests

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 20, 2023

We are aware of protests that may occur in locations across the Grand Erie region today.

We recognize that these planned demonstrations and associated social media activity may negatively impact Grand Erie students, families and communities, especially for those who are members of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Grand Erie is committed to upholding the human rights of those we serve, which includes creating spaces of belonging, and safe, welcoming learning and working environments. We affirm the identities and lived experiences of students, staff and families.

We understand there are different religious and creed-based beliefs, and we recognize the rights of families to teach and practice their faith. As guided by the Ontario Human Rights Code, we are committed to upholding religious and creed-based rights of individuals without compromising the rights and dignity of others.

Schools are prepared to support the safety and well-being of all students and staff. If you have any concerns for yourself or others, there are web-based resources and supports available for students and families. In addition, trained support staff are at our schools to help any who may want their support.

Grand Erie will continue to create safe and inclusive learning and working environments, free from discrimination. To our students, families, staff and communities, you all belong here.
