One-Stop Grad Shop Offers Glam Without the Price Tags

FRIDAY, MAY 5, 2023

K

ing George Elementary School is the place to be for the fashion forward this graduation season. The school is once again hosting One-Stop Grad Shop, an initiative started by the Brantford Police Service, and an event that helps remove barriers for students in the Brantford area to celebrate this milestone accomplishment in style.

“You think about how expensive it is to buy clothes for an occasion like graduation, and then many people have beautiful dresses and formal wear hanging in their closets that they’ve maybe only worn once,” said Lindsay Cordingley, one of the staff members at King George organizing the event. “It’s wonderful that an event like this can bring those gently used items out of people’s closets to be donated for students to access.”

The One-Stop Grad Shop includes formal dresses, suit jackets, dress shirts, shoes and accessories in a variety of sizes and styles – everything that’s needed to put together a red carpet-ready outfit, without the price tags. Organizers are still seeking donations of formal wear and accessories, and new or gently used items can be dropped off at King George Elementary School up until May 10.

The One-Stop Grad Shop supports Grand Erie's Multi-Year Strategic Plan priority of Belonging, promoting equitable practices that remove barriers to inclusion for learners.
