Reach-Ahead Courses

Offerings include three Reach-Ahead courses for current Grade 7 and 8 students:

  • Business Studies (1.00 credit)
  • Civics (0.50 credit)
  • Career Studies (0.50 credit)

Elementary Student Registration

Elementary students registering for Reach-Ahead courses can complete and submit the registration form.

Additional Requirements

Grand Erie elementary students must also be cross enrolled with Grand Erie Learning Alternatives by their home school.

Orientation

There is a short orientation module for eLearning courses that will open on Friday, June 26. You will receive an email from the Ontario eLearning Consortium confirming registration.

Grade Levels

Grades 7 to 9

Program Description

  • Cost: Free
  • Location of Program: Various (see below)
  • Length of Program: 5 days - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily

This camp is open to Grand Erie District School Board students and Six Nations elementary students. Students entering grades 7 to 9 will gain confidence in themselves as they learn how to use a mitre saw, bandsaw, drills, impact drivers, and how to use a tape measure. In addition to the trades skills, students will learn basics in mathematics, specifically how to add, subtract and divide fractions in a hands-on way. Students will learn to respect the tools as they learn proper safety techniques. Each student will get to build and take home a completed project. 

There are limited spaces available.  

Lunch is provided. 


Program: Culinary Chef Camp

Program Description

  • Cost: Free
  • Location of Program: Various (see below)
  • Length of Program: 5 days - 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily

This camp is open to Grand Erie District School Board and Six Nations students entering grades 8-9.

Students will learn basic cooking skills including proper measurement and following recipes and written instructions. Students will have the opportunity to create multiple dishes including baking under the supervision of chef instructors. 

There are limited spaces available.  

Lunch is provided.


Program: Small Engines Camp

Program Description

  • Cost: Free
  • Location of Program: Brantford Collegiate Institute & Vocational School
  • Length of Program: 5 days

The Small Engine Camp is available to Grand Erie and Six Nations students entering grades 8-9. This camp will provide an introduction to the operation, and maintenance of small engines, typically found in lawn mowers, chainsaws, motorcycles, Students will participate in hands-on activities including small engine tear down and rebuilding, etc.

There are limited spaces available. Students registered once the camp is full will be wait-listed and you will be notified if a space becomes available.  

Camps will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Lunch is provided.


Program: Horticulture Green Industries Camp

Grade 8 and 9

Program Description

  • Location of Program: Simcoe Composite School
  • Length of Program: 5 days 

The Horticulture Green Industries Camp is available to Grand Erie and Six Nations students entering grades 8-9. This camp will provide an introduction to Agriculture, Green Energy, Horticulture, Floristry and Forestry. This is a hands-on camp and students will be completing take-home projects. 

There are limited spaces available. Students registered once the camp is full will be wait-listed and notified when a space is available.  

This camp is free to attend. Camps are provided for students entering Grades 8 and 9 and will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Lunch is provided.


Program: InnovateHER STEAM Camp

Program Description

This STEAM Camp is available to Grand Erie District School Board and Six Nations female students entering Grades 7 to 10. This camp will provide an introduction to the exciting world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math).

Students will participate in hands-on activities each day covering topics like Artists and Makers, Gizmos and Gadgets, backyard Science, Mission to the Moon and a Student Showcase on Friday afternoon.

There are limited spaces available. Students registered once the camp is full will be wait-listed and you will be notified if a space becomes available.  

  • Location of Programs: Innovation Hub @ GrandErie, 280 North Park St. in Brantford
  • When: August 11 to 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily

Program: Grand Erie Focus on Youth

Focus on Youth - A Grand Erie Program

Program Description

  • Location of Programs: Within Brantford/Brant
  • Length of Programs: 6 to 8 weeks 

Program runs during the months of June, July and August, and includes summer school courses, peer mentoring or summer employment. Paid training may be included.

Registration Details

  • Must be at least 15 years old by July 1, 2026
  • Must be registered full-time in a Grand Erie Secondary School or program
  • Must be available to work 30 hours a week during the months of July and August
  • Have interest or talents in one of:
    • Sports 
    • Arts
    • School or community leadership
    • Recreation
    • Skilled labour
  • Two references (can be teachers, volunteer supervisors, employment supervisors or community group leaders)

Program: Co-operative Education (Secondary)

Program Description and Objectives

  • Two-credit co-operative education program.
  • Blended Delivery for senior secondary students.
  • In-person co-op placement with an associated online component.

Registration Details

  • Grand Erie secondary students will register through their home school.
  • Out-of-Board secondary students must contact the GELA office directly for registration inquiries.

Summer Learning - Specialized Services

This is My School Program:

This summer initiative is intended for students entering Kindergarten, Grade 1 or 2 who have special education needs or complex learning profiles. The program focuses on easing the transition into the classroom environment by addressing individual student needs while promoting inclusion in general education settings. The curriculum emphasizes familiarity with school routines, social connections, and readiness for learning.

lt All Adds Up to Me Program:

This program is for students in Junior grades who may have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in mathematics and would benefit from additional direct instruction and practice. The program supports access to the Ontario math curriculum and encourages a positive mathematical identity. Instruction will include direct teaching of numeracy concepts and application of skills through real-world problem-solving activities.
