Empowering Students for Tomorrow's Workforce
The Ministry of Education has announced new Career Coaching Services for Grades 9 and 10 students. These services connect students to professionals with real-world experience and offer practical insights beyond traditional guidance courses.
What are Career Coaches?
Career coaches are professionals with experience in high-demand jobs in local labour markets. These coaches have completed training by HEIC and a background check.
What is HEIC?
Halton Industry Education Centre (HEIC) is an innovative not-for-profit industry education council that collaborates with school boards to extend learning beyond the classroom. The council is made up of former educators and administrators, certified development professionals and career coaches selected by the Ministry of Education.
How does it work?
Students can attend class-sized, half-day, full-day or virtual sessions. Each session provides the following:
- An overview of how career coaching supports career exploration, decision-making and goal setting.
- Insights into local employment trends and in-demand industries.
- A chance to reflect on different types of work, and whether that resonates with students' goals and interests.
- Actionable steps, resources and tools for ongoing support.
What’s the benefit for students?
- Learn about current high-demand jobs in your region.
- Ask questions about the world of full-time employment.
- Gain insight into education pathways.
How will I know when a coach is coming to my school?
Schools will provide this information to families through communication channels such as email or school newsletters. If you have questions, please get in touch with your school.
