Monthly Update CEO - Thumbnail

Grand Erie Families,

The school year is its final stretch, and it's a time filled with celebration, reflection, and continued learning. As plans for the summer take shape, I want to share the 2026-27 School Year Calendars are available.

This month, I'd like to recognize a few students, employees and events:

On May 26, Grand Erie is hosting a Skills and Art Showcase at the Joseph Brant Learning Centre from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The event will feature elementary and secondary schools from their recent technology skills competitions, and an art gallery to unveil various artist interpretations of Grand Erie’s vision—Learn, Lead, Inspire— and what it means to them through art.

Learning Updates and Reminders:

  • Registration for Kindergarten for the 2026-27 school year continues. As you parents/caregivers prepare for a major transition, our caring educators and employees are ready to welcome your child to Kindergarten.
  • Whether it’s reach-ahead credits for Grade 7 and 8 students or eLearning courses for secondary students, students can now register and participate in summer learning.
  • All high school students must complete 40 hours of community involvement by the time they graduate from Grade 12. Students may begin to accumulate volunteer hours in the summer between Grade 8 and Grade 9. If you go above and beyond in your volunteer work during high school, you can earn a Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement when you graduate.
  • We’re here to support every learner’s journey, beginning with attendance. The Grand Erie Attendance Strategy will increase parent and caregiver awareness and engagement in supporting and promoting attendance, as well as support robust, inclusive and collaborative strategies to address complex barriers to student attendance.
  • Explore our updated Scholarships page to discover a wide range of opportunities available to Grand Erie students.

New Initiatives

  • On June 13, whether you walk, run, roll, rally your friends and join the Grand Erie District School Board for the first Strides for Students event. Each stride will help remove barriers to ensure all learners have the support, resources, and opportunities to succeed in school.
  • We are thrilled to introduce the Hall of Distinction, celebrating alum who contribute to learning, leading and inspiring in their communities. This is an opportunity to celebrate individuals whose journeys and contributions reflect a commitment to our shared values, both in our school communities and far beyond the region's boundaries.
  • Tee off to support a great cause! Join us for the inaugural Grand Erie Learning Open on August 5, at MontHill Golf and Country Club. Every swing, drive, and putt helps raise funds to support student well-being programming and vital school initiatives across the Grand Erie District School Board.

Resources:

Enjoy the warmer weather, and thank you for your continued support.
