The Grand Erie District School Board is encouraging students, families, and community members to get active while supporting student success through its inaugural Strides for Students event on June 13 at Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School in Brantford.

“This event reflects our commitment to gathering together and creating a sense of belonging with the Grand Erie community,” said Brian Doyle, Chair of the Board.

The Strides for Students event promotes physical activity and community involvement while raising support for programs that enhance student well-being, belonging and achievement.

“This is the first event in what will become a strong tradition of giving back in Grand Erie, allowing us to direct community support to where it can make the most meaningful difference for students across the region,”
- JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education.

Funds raised will be directed to programming and projects that increase access to experiential learning and field trip opportunities, and emergency needs, working to eliminate systemic barriers and expand equitable access.

“Participants in Strides for Students are encouraged to take part by walking, running, or moving in ways that promote healthy lifestyles, while contributing to initiatives that directly benefit students and schools,” said Lisa Munro, Associate Director of Curriculum and Student Achievement.

For competitive runners, the event begins with a 5-kilometre run option. All others are welcome to go at their own pace, and take part in games and activities, with community partners offering fun options for the whole family.
