A Message on the Passing of Pope Francis

Tuesday, Apr 22, 2025

Dear Grand Erie Families, Staff and Community,

We join communities worldwide in mourning Pope Francis' passing, a global figure who dedicated his life to compassion, justice, and unity. In recognition of his remarkable leadership, flags at all Grand Erie District School Board buildings will be flown at half-mast until sunset on Saturday, April 26, the day of his funeral.

Pope Francis is remembered for his commitment to the underserved, and his historically progressive stances that challenged institutions to do better, be better, and care more deeply.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Grand Erie community members who are feeling Pope Francis's loss. Our thoughts are with our neighbours and colleagues at the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board during this time of mourning.

"Education is an act of hope for a better society."

Let this be a moment for reflection, unity, and recommitment to the values that Pope Francis so courageously championed.

With deepest sympathy,

Susan Gibson Dr. JoAnna Roberto, Ph.D
Chair of the BoardDirector of Education and Secretary to the Board
