Join us in powering down on Saturday, March 28

Earth Hour is an opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibility to care for the planet we call home. We're reminded that even small actions can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future.

I encourage families to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour to reduce energy and talk about how our everyday choices can support environmental stewardship. Here are some ways you can participate in learning at home:

  • Use the time to discuss topics related to Earth Hour, including:
    • The human impact on our environment and ecosystems
    • The importance of a healthy environment and its impact on our health and well-being
    • How we use electricity and why energy conservation is important
  • Take a few minutes to go outside with your family to appreciate the natural elements evident on and around your home using this resource from EcoSchools.

Earth

Grand Erie will participate in Earth Hour and acknowledge our responsibility to protect the planet. Schools and departments will participate and turn off non-essential lights on Friday, March 27. Facility Services staff will ensure the lights are turned off on Saturday by switching off non-essential lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. to officially recognize Earth Hour.

Wishing you a wonderful Earth Hour.
