A new student voice will join the Board table in September 2026. Ruby Sanghera, a Grade 11 student at Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School, was elected to represent the Brantford and Brant County region as student trustee for the 2026-27 school year. BCI's Prabhsidak Singh, who currently represents the region, is moving on to post-secondary school in the fall.

An advocate for her peers, Ruby is an active member of Pauline Johnson's Student Council and Grand Erie's Student Senate, and currently serves as her school's Minister of Inclusion.

"I have had the opportunity to listen to diverse student perspectives and contribute to discussions surrounding mental health and well-being," shared Sanghera in her student trustee application. "Through these experiences, I have developed strong collaboration, communication and active listening skills; qualities that will serve me well as a student trustee.

Sanghera's secondary school experience demonstrates progressive leadership. She has represented her fellow learners on Student Council since Grade 9 and has consistently demonstrated a commitment to student voice and inclusion. As student trustee, she intends to contribute to decision-making that is responsive to the needs of all students.

She adds, "I admire our board's commitment to creating an environment of well-being and belonging through understanding what each person can bring to the table. I share these values."

On August 1, Ruby will join fellow student trustees Harper Thompson, representing Haldimand and Norfolk counties, and Indigenous Student Trustee Ryleigh Staats as they continue their term.
