A student waits for the bus

Starting next September, Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School (BCI) is partnering with Brantford Transit on an exciting pilot project that will benefit Grade 9 students and families, better connecting the southwest region of the city with the BCI community. As part of this pilot program, transit passes will be provided free of charge to incoming Grade 9 BCI students residing in West Brant who don’t qualify for school transportation.

"The aim of this project is to support students and families in West Brant attending BCI with an alternative, flexible option for getting to and from school," said Kevin Graham, superintendent for Grand Erie's secondary schools. "This project also has the added benefits of building community through a sustainable mode of travel that fosters independence and increases access to other valuable opportunities."

Two main bus routes currently connect West Brant to the BCI community. Passes will be valid for the duration of a semester, and can be renewed for subsequent semesters, provided the student continues to be enrolled. Transit passes can be used for travelling any time buses are in operation, and on any Brantford Transit routes, further increasing learners' opportunities to connect with their community.

The initiative is part of Grand Erie's commitment to building cultures of learning, well-being and belonging through equitable and responsive approaches supporting the cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs of each learner.
