Treaties Recognition Week

Treaties Recognition Week is observed during the first week of November in Ontario to promote awareness and understanding of treaties and the ongoing relationships between Indigenous Peoples and the Crown.

Established in 2016, the week provides an opportunity to learn about the history and significance of treaties, the rights and responsibilities they establish, and their continuing relevance today.

Through education and reflection, Treaties Recognition Week encourages a deeper understanding of treaty relationships and the shared responsibility to honour them. It reinforces the understanding that we are all treaty people.

Grand Erie Connections

Grand Erie's schools are located on lands connected to historic treaty relationships, including the Haldimand Proclamation of 1784 and the lands of the Six Nations of the Grand River. Learning about these histories and relationships supports a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and communities that continue today.
