International Inuit Day

Inuit Day, also known as International Inuit Day, is observed annually on November 7 to celebrate Inuit cultures, histories, languages and contributions, and to recognize Inuit communities across the circumpolar Arctic.

Established by the Inuit Circumpolar Council in 2006, the observance honours the birthday of Eben Hopson Sr., an Inuit leader and visionary who helped establish the organization and advocated for Inuit rights and international cooperation.

The day provides an opportunity to learn about Inuit identities, traditions and contemporary experiences, while recognizing the importance of Inuit voices, knowledge and leadership in shaping communities in Canada and throughout the Arctic.
