Indigenous Veterans Day

Indigenous Veterans Day is observed annually on November 8 to honour the service, courage and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit and Métis veterans who have contributed to Canada's military history.

Indigenous Peoples have served in Canada's military efforts for generations, including during the War of 1812, the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War and more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

The day provides an opportunity to recognize their contributions, reflect on the challenges and discrimination many Indigenous veterans experienced, and honour their lasting legacy of service and sacrifice.
