Franco-Ontarian Day

September 25 is Franco-Ontarian Day, an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Ontario's Francophone community.

French has been spoken in Ontario for more than 400 years, and Franco-Ontarians have made significant contributions to the social, cultural, economic and political life of the province.

September 25 also marks the anniversary of the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag in Sudbury in 1975. The green and white flag was officially recognized as the emblem of Ontario's French-speaking community in 2001, and in 2010, Ontario officially proclaimed September 25 as Franco-Ontarian Day.
