Diwali, also known as Deepavali or the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by many Hindu communities and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
Around this time, many Sikhs commemorate Bandi Chhor Divas, while Jains observe Mahavira Nirvana Diwas. Although traditions of light may be shared, these observances have distinct histories, beliefs and meanings.
Celebrations vary among families and communities and many include lighting lamps, gathering with loved ones, sharing food and participating in religious or cultural traditions. These celebrations reflect the diversity of traditions and identities that enrich our school communities.
