For Nancy Norton, Principal at Rainham Central School, this summer brought a chance to cross an item off her bucket list. And, this bucket list item just happened to 19,341 feet tall.
In June, as the school year was winding down, Celena Ferraro, a parent and neighbour of Tollgate Technological Skills Centre’s extended community, called Vice-Principal Jim Young with a unique quandary involving a plucky kitten.
Summer school is open to students in Grades 6 through 12, and offers a condensed schedule to accelerate achievement. The reasons students have for choosing summer school are as varied as their individual goals.

Back to school officially begins for all Grand Erie students on Tuesday, September 3, with staff ready to welcome new and returning students for the 2019-20 school year.
Grand Erie District School Board is encouraging all of its schools to take part in Waste Reduction Week from October 21-27 in an effort to raise awareness of how much waste is produced in a typical day, and to empower students to take leadership roles in finding solutions to the growing worldwide problem.
It will be an orange wave in the halls of Grand Erie schools next Monday (September 30), as the board recognizes Orange Shirt Day to educate and raise awareness of the residential school system, and the continuing impact it has on Indigenous communities.
“Some families didn’t talk about what had happened at the residential schools because the trauma was too great,” says Claudine VanEvery-Albert, who is Mohawk and a member of the Turtle clan, as well as a Grand Erie Trustee representing the interests of Six Nations students. “But my family talked about it. We talked about it a lot.”
“I’m not disabled; the built environment is disabled.” Mike Greer, an ambassador with the Rick Hansen Foundation, made this statement during a recent presentation to Grand Erie administrators, and it’s a reality he’s reminded of on a regular basis.
Grand Erie District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Munro as Superintendent of Education, effective August 19, 2019.
