A Message from Director of Education Brenda Blancher
I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to
staff all across Grand Erie for their hard work in getting classrooms and
schools ready for the new school year – everyone from custodians, caretakers,
and clerical staff to teachers and school administrators. Our schools and our
support centres are ready for 2019-20 as a result of the efforts of so many of
you.
September is always a time for fresh starts
and new beginnings as we enter another school year and feel the excitement of
all the possibilities to come. These possibilities include a lot of new
learning – for both students and staff alike. Increasing student understanding
of effective learning strategies is a key goal of the Achievement indicator in
our Multi-Year Plan as is increasing staff understanding of effective
instruction and assessment. Together, these two goals help us set high
expectations for all Grand Erie students and staff.
Entering the final year of our Multi-Year
Plan, we all remain committed to the ultimate goal of
Success for Every Student
and our daily actions and decisions reflect that focus.
I am so proud to work in education and to lead the Grand Erie District School Board. I’ve had the privilege of working in education for the past 34 years and every September I feel the same rush and anticipation as the first day of school approaches.
We’re all lucky to work in a field where we
get to learn every day and where we get to see our students discover their
passions and grow into the amazing people we know they can be.
I have always
felt that those who work in Education answer a special calling – whether you
work in a classroom or support those who do – you make an impact on our
students, our schools and our school communities each and every day.
Thank you for all that you’ve done – and for
all that you will do in the year ahead – to ensure
Success for Every Student in
2019-20.
