Grand Erie District School Board is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the Elementary Federation of Teachers of Ontario (ETFO) Grand Erie Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs). The agreement was ratified by the Board on March 25, 2024 and is effective through to 2026.
For students involved in the dramatic arts, the month of March is the culminating point of a year’s worth of planning, building, rehearsing and refining their shows. March is not only the time for school drama clubs' initial public shows, but the month ends with an ultimate performance at the annual NTS District Festival.

Grand Erie District School Board and the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) have received Ministry of Education approval to proceed to tender, as well as additional funding in the amount of $12,622,948 to support the construction of a new joint-use elementary school.

When Richard Ernst discovered an old car’s frame abandoned in a Waterloo field, he saw an opportunity. Following the success of last year’s classic car restoration, Transportation Technology teacher Mr. Ernst disassembled and hauled a 1956 Volkswagen Beetle out from the fence row and into his auto classroom at Simcoe Composite School, where students are transforming the vehicle into something sparkling and new.

Students and staff at Tollgate Technological Skills Centre are taking part in the Push-Up Challenge, an initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) this month. The 23-day challenge aims to increase physical activity and well-being together, while increasing knowledge around mental health. 
Learners across Grand Erie will cast ballots on February 15 in the Student Trustee election to select their representatives for the 2024-25 school year. Three student leaders will be elected, representing the north and south regions of the board, and Indigenous students across the district.

Last summer, Lisa Taylor, a Grade 5 teacher at Major Ballachey Public School in Brantford, noticed a social media post that ignited inspiration for the school year ahead. It was a post by Ripley’s Aquarium, promoting a contest open to educators, inviting them to submit applications to win a free class trip to Toronto to take in the underwater learning experience. The aim was to remove barriers and provide a unique opportunity for learners who might not otherwise have the chance.

Griffin Cobb is principal at Pauline Johnson Collegiate and Vocational School in Brantford, and attended Simcoe Composite School in Norfolk County as a student. 
Some of the youngest learners at St. George-German Public School recently had a chance to experience the benefits of yoga, connecting mindfulness, movement and breathwork to build a strong foundation of calm in the classroom.

Alison High is principal at Valley Heights Secondary School in Norfolk County, and also attended Valley as a student. 
As we get ready to say goodbye to 2023 and greet the new year, I want to share my best wishes with our students and families across this beautiful region.
In November, McKinnon Park Secondary students took on the Distributive Education Clubs of America’s (DECA) business competition at Brock University. The program introduces high school students to a variety of concepts in marketing, finance, hospitality and management building the foundation for post-secondary studies and a future business career.
This year, Bloomsburg Public School’s Festive Dinner returned once again. Students, teachers, bus drivers and many others in our community were invited to join us for a turkey lunch here at Bloomsburg on Friday, December 15th.
