Grand Erie uses social media to share pertinent information and items that contribute to Grand Erie's vision to learn, lead and inspire and work to build a culture of learning, well-being and belonging.
Grand Erie District School Board's official social media channels are Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube. Many Grand Erie schools and departments use social media tools managed by designated school and/or department staff.
Availability
We update and monitor social media during regular business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m.). All questions, comments and concerns communicated online will be reviewed during business hours. We will read and respond to as many direct messages as possible, however, we may not reply individually to all messages received.
We encourage those with specific questions to reach the board via email or by phone at 519-756-6301. If you have concerns regarding content or behaviour on a Grand Erie social media site, please contact Communications and Community Relations at gedsb-communications@granderie.ca.
These channels are not monitored 24/7. If you are a student in crisis, please call 911.
Community Standards
Grand Erie welcomes and encourages open and engaging discussion on social media. We have the same expectations for respect on social media that is expected in our schools. As such, the following guidelines must be followed when participating in Grand Erie's social media channels:
- Grand Erie does not allow comments and posts that are obscene, explicit, abusive, hateful, defamatory, and/or intentionally off-topic/disruptive.
We reserve the right to delete any comments that could be considered to include:
- Spam
- Advertising or promotion of services
- Encouraging or facilitating illegal activity
- Infringement of copyrights and/or trademarks
- Violation of any Grand Erie policies or procedures
- Attacks, insults or threatening language toward an individual or group
- Private, personal information published without consent, including but not limited to doxxing
- Statements intended to shame, bully and/or invalidate the identities of individuals and/or groups
- Hyperlinks to material not related to the discussion
Users who repeatedly violate these guidelines may be removed and/or blocked from Grand Erie pages without warning.
- Participants use social media at their own risk, taking personal responsibility for all comments, usernames and information provided.
- Posts and comments by individuals do not reflect the opinions and views of Grand Erie or its employees.
Privacy
In accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Grand Erie District School Board only publishes photos and videos of students with confirmed, written media consent. Caregivers of students under 18 indicate media consent at the start of every school year, granting permission to share school-related 'good news' stories in the newspaper and Grand Erie's social media sites, including accounts operated by school staff.
Photos/videos taken by family members at school and school-related events should not be published without informed consent.
