Want to Learn Punjabi, Arabic or Mandarin?

The following international language classes are being offered in the 2021-2022 school year. Once teachers are available for these courses, students will be contacted by the assigned teacher in order to start learning.

 

Punjabi Secondary Credit Class

  • Students will earn a secondary school credit (Saturday mornings - 3 hours)

Punjabi Elementary

  • Open to grades 1 to 8 elementary students currently registered in a public-funded or private school
    (Saturday mornings - 2.5 hours).

Mandarin Elementary

  • Open to Grades 1 to 8 elementary students currently registered in a public-funded or private school.
    (Saturday mornings - 2.5 hours).

Arabic Elementary

  • Open to Grades 1 to 8 elementary students currently registered in a public-funded or private school.
    (Saturday mornings - 2.5 hours).

Registration Procedure


Students registering for the first time require Proof of Birth and Citizenship to be submitted with registration - proof could be one of the following:

  • a Canadian Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate
  • a Canadian Passport (not a Canada Visa within a passport)
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence Form 5292 or IMM100 (verified with a passport)
  • Permanent Resident Card

International Languages Information

Program Information

  • Offers children the opportunity to develop and/or maintain the ability to speak, listen, read and write a new language, or in the language of their heritage.
  • Enhances students’ connection with their heritage.
  • Improves communication skills in their language of choice.
  • Strengthens cognitive development through the knowledge of an additional language.
  • Provides opportunities to learn and experience another culture.
  • Languages currently offered:  Punjabi, Mandarin, Arabic.

Important Notes

  • Elementary language program for students attending school, from Senior Kindergarten to 8 in September 2021 using either the online or in-class format. 
  • Credit Classes for those entering grade 9 to 12 in September 2021.
  • Students with all levels of language proficiency are welcome.
  • Students need to be committed to learning and improving their skills. Good attitude, behaviour and consistent engagement are expected of every student.
