Mathematical Pathways

Students and parents are encouraged to investigate the math requirements needed to pursue careers available through apprenticeships, colleges and universities. With this information, students and parents can use the pathway map to plan the math courses students need to take through high school. Math Help

If your child is having difficulty in their math course, we encourage them to ask their teacher for assistance. If they need extra help or a place to do homework, the MathCenter is open every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch in Room 237.

EQAO Math Testing

During their grade nine math course, students will write the EQAO Ministry Math Assessment. The assessment occurs over two days during the last full week of their grade nine math course. The assessment consists of multiple choice questions and open response questions. Teachers will evaluate the assessment before sending it to the Ministry. This grade is included in the student’s final evaluation. For more information, access the EQAO web site at www.eqao.com or contact the student’s math teacher.

Math Contests

For those students who enjoy math and have an aptitude for mathematics, there are math contests offered by the University of Waterloo. Each grade level has two or three contests during the year. Students interested in writing these contests should talk to their math teacher or visit the Math Office. For more detailed descriptions about the contests, visit www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca.
