The inaugural Grand Erie Learning Open, presented by Hallex Engineering, took place on August 5 at MontHill Golf and Country Club. The sold-out tournament brought together more than 140 golfers, employees, community members and sponsors for a day of golf and support for students across the Grand Erie District School Board.
“We’re grateful for the incredible turnout and support from the community,” said Brian Doyle, Chair of the Board. “Every golfer, sponsor and donor who contributed played a direct role in creating opportunities for students who need them most. The generosity shown will have a lasting impact.”
Through registrations, sponsorships and silent auction donations, more than $40,000 was raised for the Grand Erie Learning Foundation. These funds directly help remove barriers for students and create opportunities that allow every learner to participate in school life and reach their potential fully.
Through the Ready-to-Learn Fund and School Grants, the Foundation will use these funds to address emergency needs, enhance student well-being resources, and expand access to learning experiences that enrich education for Grand Erie students.
“The Learning Open was always meant to be more than just a day on the golf course. It’s designed as an investment in our students’ futures,” said Dr. JoAnna Roberto, Chief Executive Officer. “This inaugural event has established a foundation for an annual tradition, strengthening community connections and empowering learners across Grand Erie for years to come.”
The inaugural tournament featured several winners, including:
“The goal was to build an event that directly translated into meaningful resources for students and schools,” said Raf Wyszynski, Superintendent of Business and Chair of the Learning Open Planning Committee. “Seeing months of planning culminate in a sold-out course, incredible silent auction donations, and such high energy from every participant exceeded all our expectations.”
