Celebrating Walter's Birthday

Students and staff enjoyed cake and were honoured by a special visit from Glen Gretzky, Walter’s son; Austin Kohler, Walter’s grandson; and Darin Cleary, a representative from Millard Chartered Professional Accountants, who generously donated the cakes for the celebration.

Throughout the day, students reflected on the many qualities that made Walter Gretzky such a respected and beloved member of the community. Walter was known for his kindness, generosity, humility, encouragement of young people, and willingness to help others. He strongly believed in treating people with respect and using every opportunity to make someone else’s day a little better.

In that same spirit, Walter Gretzky Elementary School has launched a Cake Kit Food Drive in Walter’s honour. We will collect donations until October 30 and provide them to the local food bank so families in need can enjoy the simple joy of making a birthday cake together.

Families are invited to donate cake mixes, clear pop, icing, birthday candles, and disposable cake pans.

Through this initiative, our school community is proud to continue Walter Gretzky’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and caring for others.
