When researching the possibilities of entering the MANAGEMENT field, you must have full understanding from the very beginning that it demands a commitment to almost and never ending path of learning.
There are literally thousands of options offered for the continued learning and developing of your management skills and techniques. Tons and tons of Books on the subject, numerous private school - college - university programs - courses and seminars (in and out of house) are offered, and this much discussed and debated area, management, is at best unpredictable.
There is an abundance of documentation to support that the successes, as well as the dismal failures, have been witnessed to come in all shapes, sizes, forms, and colors. Sometimes there just seems to be no, law, rule, or logic, of how to succeed as a Manager.
“Management is the skill of attaining predetermined objectives with and through the voluntary cooperation and effort of other people.”
Management is a skill. We learn management techniques, and through practice, perfect them. As a leader you alter the lives of other people, you should dedicate yourself to acquiring the knowledge necessary to liberate people to do their best work to achieve, and succeed.
Management must focus on results. For managers, NO prize gets handed out for how hard you work, only results, merit rewards. As one manager puts it “Don’t tell me about the labor pains, show me the baby” Quite simply, the effective manager is the one who gets the job done. That is all that really matters.
There is a fact of life that you must accept if you hold a management position every person you manage distrusts you. We all doubt management. Candidly an honestly, historically management has been guilty of some pretty wicked abuses in dealing with people. If not, we would never have had our problems with child labor and sweatshops . Consequently, everyone has been taught and conditioned to some extent to believe that management will use you, that management will regard you as nothing more than a tool or a pawn to be used by management to reach management’s objectives.
Simply people have been trained to resist leadership I don’t believe this will ever be totally eliminated . The only chance we have of ever penetrating this resistance to our leadership ---- is effective management on a daily basis.
We must communicate that we do not want slaves. Rather, .... we want to work together in a mutual relationship designed so that each and everyone involved can fulfill his or her own needs.

The Hospitality Services & Management section offers the opportunity for the students in a on-hands environment, administer the daily operation of a fully functioning Hospitality service.
During the operation of both The Gallery Restaurant and In-House Catering Functions the students will understand and promote mutual respect, while learning and implementing the following Restaurant Management Foundation Concepts.

Each one of us projects an image to the public, but we also have another image, a real one that we admit privately (we call it our concept of self). The closer the public image we project is to our concept of self, the greater our emotional maturity. The better in-balance we are, the more effective we are as team members, and / or as leaders.
We commonly see all types of leadership mistakes, in many of the hierarchy’s of the group setting we find ourselves in frequently during our daily living. The sports teams and extra circular activities we join, the clubs and groups we belong to, our hobbies, volunteer groups we are members of, our workplace’s, even our home life. All of these dynamic settings where we have contact with our fellow human beings, we can clearly see and experience errors in leadership, some more blatant that others, but the most important fact is that these mistakes, waste valuable time, money, and talent.
