Kindergarten Registration Is Open
Grand Erie schools are exciting, enriching places for young learners to receive an education. They learn to explore the world around them, solve problems, and make new friends.
Our Kindergarten programs help students get off to the best possible start. Your child will be challenged and encouraged to do his or her very best. Our caring teachers are with them every step of the way!
Children eligible for Junior Kindergarten must be 4 years old by December 31, 2012. In September, our Kindergarten students will be attending every day all day. Contact Mrs. Kelley at 519-448-1493 or come on in anytime to pick up a registration package. A birth certificate and proof of address is required in order to register.
Order your copy of Grand Erie District School Board’s Preparing for Kindergarten Kit or view the kit and registration information online, at www.granderie.ca/kindergarten.

Find Chances to Boost Responsibility
Adolescents don’t morph into responsible young adults overnight. It’s a process, and it takes time. To nurture your child’s sense of responsibility:
Enforce consequences if your child breaks the rules. This will remind her that she is responsible for her actions.
Let her or him make choices. Whenever it’s reasonable—and safe—for her to make her own decisions, stand back and let her. Assign chores. Chores are ideal for building responsibility, and completing them will make your child feel capable. Have her or him manage money. Nothing hammers home the responsibility message like empty pockets! Give your child opportunities to earn money and teach her how to manage those earnings.

Get involved!
What does "being involved" with your child’s education really mean? It means you should try to:
Always be aware. If you notice your child is struggling with schoolwork, or if they are bothered by other students, contact the teacher right away.
Attend school events. Children appreciate having their families participate in school activities.
Keep up with class activities. Read everything the teacher sends home. Also ask your child, "What are you working on now?" Look at your child’s books, and see what topics the class is covering.
