Message from the Principal

DDSS - a small school with a BIG HEART.

Academically, DDSS offers an array of courses that serve the needs of students whether they are moving on to an apprenticeship, college, university, or directly into the workplace. While it is true that we may not be able to offer the variety of courses that much larger schools do, our students are able to pursue any program that they might wish beyond high school.

Socially, there is no school that enjoys the level of spirit that DDSS does. Our students feel that they are part of the RAIDER community even before they start in grade 9. There is a great sense of pride in the school that is shared by our staff, our students, and our community. Whether it is athletics, clubs, or community events, our students are active and enthusiastic participants.

Athletically, our students enjoy the advantages of a small school. Do you want to play on a team? Unlike other larger schools that may have 30 or 40 students show up for team tryouts, at DDSS you can come on out, demonstrate a commitment, and the chances are very high that you will be part of a team. Small does not mean that we take a back seat to any team though. Our teams and individuals enjoy a level of success that surprises many!

DDSS is a community. Our staff work hard at ensuring the success of our students and because of our small size, students are able to receive the attention that they need to be successful. A look at our EQAO results for both math and literacy provide the evidence of this. Our staff also recognizes the importance of paying attention to non-academics. Developing positive character traits is a priority with our staff, and we work diligently with our parent and community partners on this.  The results – our students are great young people!!

Communication with our parent and community partners is important to us. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do call myself or our Vice-Principal, Miss High.
