  • Today we are going to talk about Collaboration Skills.
    • When we are working together, it is important that we are able to get our point across and share our perspective without imposing our ideas on others.
    • Today I will share TWO collaboration skills that will help you to achieve this and tomorrow I will share two more!
    • The first Skill Collaboration is Active listening: Active listening goes beyond hearing the words your fellow classmates are saying. It means listening without judgement and making sure you understand the meaning behind what they say. If you don’t understand, ask for clarification, and take the time to summarize what was said before moving on.
    • Another important skill is Written communication: A lot of collaboration happens in writing, (here’s looking at you, EMAIL!). How many of you have gotten a text message from someone and you thought they were upset or angry with you simply by how it was written!? We tend to rely on nonverbal cues to get our point across and sometimes the message gets miscommunicated in writing. That is why it is especially important to be mindful of how messages might be received when communicating in writing.
    • Let’s practice some collaboration skills and have some lunch time fun! Drop by Room 218 today at lunch for a game of Mario Kart Teams!
    • Remember – it feels great to collaborate
