Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Grand Erie Gets Ready for Kindergarten Registration Month

January is Kindergarten registration month, and Grand Erie District School Board is preparing to welcome a new class of young learners, with information ready for parents to assist them during the online registration process. Parents of children who will be four years old by the end of 2021 will want to take note of deadlines and required information to ensure a seamless start to their child’s schooling next September.
 
“Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time for families, and the first steps for children on a joyous journey of learning,” said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education. “It’s a time to explore and be creative, as children build positive relationships and a strong sense of themselves in the world. School staff look forward to welcoming families as we work to make this important milestone a successful one.”
 
Parents of soon-to-be Kindergarten students can visit Grand Erie’s website (granderie.ca) and click on the Kindergarten Registration banner for more information about the process. This includes finding their child’s home school, which documents are required for registration, information about transportation, community resources, and before-and-after-school programs.
 
Due to COVID-19 public health restrictions, the registration process will be completed online, as parents and guardians are asked not to visit schools in person at this time.
 
Parents interested in Grand Erie’s French Immersion program have until February 5, 2021, to apply for a spot through a randomized selection process for new families. Students who currently have a sibling in the program are guaranteed a spot, but registration is still required.
 
Grand Erie District School Board represents nearly 18,000 students in 58 elementary schools and more than 7,300 students in 14 secondary schools within the city of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk as well as secondary students from Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
