BRANTFORD, ONT. – On November 21, the Grand Erie District School Board will officially open the Innovation Hub @ Grand Erie, a cutting-edge centre for innovation and collaboration designed to inspire the next generation of creators, thinkers, and problem-solvers.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express my appreciation for Innovation Hub @ Grand Erie, which is a learning investment that provides future possibilities for students, staff, and the community in STEAM and research and aligns with our multi-year strategic plan,” says Susan Gibson, Chair of the Board.

“The Innovation Hub represents Grand Erie’s commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among our students, staff and community,” says JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education. “This learning space will enrich and empower learners to transform ideas into reality. We look forward to working alongside educators, researchers, post-secondary institutions, technology start-ups, entrepreneurs, and community partners to help shape their futures.”

From 4 to 6 p.m., the event will feature:

  • Keynote presentation by Mark Daley, Chief AI Officer at Western University, on the transformative role of AI in education (virtual presentation).
  • STEAM Showcases will demonstrate how students can use the space and the type of offerings available.
  • Closing keynote by Curtis Carmichael, a certified teacher and instructional coach, on Accessibility Redefined, exploring inclusive innovation.

“The Innovation Hub is a game-changer for education in Grand Erie,” says Lisa Munro, Superintendent of Curriculum and Student Achievement. “It’s designed to equip students with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world while providing educators and partners a platform to push the boundaries of learning and innovation.”

The Innovation Hub @ Grand Erie is located at North Park Collegiate and Vocational School, 280 N Park St. in Brantford. It is a state-of-the-art experiential learning environment where students in grades 7 to 12 can engage with advanced STEAM tools to ideate, design, and refine their ideas.
