Mrs. Annette Staley

Bonjour!

It's already December. How fast the time has gone!

We have been busy in our French classes as we finish up several things this term and begin new learning.

The grade 4 and 4/5 class is finishing up identification of emotions. Once we finish the last 2 assignments, we will begin to learn about what we like (and don't like) on our pizza.

The grade 5 students will soon complete their work on summer and winter activities they like and do. They will create a "photo album" to show what activites they like to do, don't like to do, like and don't like.

In grade 6, we are beginning to learn about clothing. Our first quiz is Friday, December 7 and will be based on the first 10 vocabulary words. We are reviewing the words in class. The first 10 words are:

1) une chemise

2) un pantalon

3) une cravate

4) une veste

5) des souliers

6) un foulard

7) un imperméable

8) un sac à main

9) une robe

10) des talons hauts

Accents are important as are whether the word is masculine (un) or feminine (une).

Grade 7's are discovering what is in a wax museum and how a wax figure is made. Once we finish the unit, students will create a model of a favourite person - singer, actor, celebrity, cartoon character, etc. - and do some research about the person. We probably won't get to this activity until the new year.

Grade 8's are working on their final assignment about travel. They are working on a brochure that uses the grammar and vocabulary elements that we have worked on this term. They choose a place to visit and must use 5 different modes of transportation to get there. I have provided each student with an example of a brochure as well as a write up of the assignment. They should be working on the assignment at school. I have also instructed the students on the fact that they are not to use Google Translate as 1) sometimes the translation does not come out as it should, 2) Google translate is not their own work and 3) most of what needs to be included in the brochure is in their notes.

As I teach Music as well, there are a few notes that I wish to include in this letter as well.

The grade 7 and 8 students have been busy writing songs and adding music. Now they must be prepared to perform their group song, using a home-made instrument. The instrument is not to be elaborate or pre-made. It is to be used to accompany the singers as they keep the beat and add rhythm to their creation. Presentations are to begin this week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school (519-752-9687).  I am usually available after school.

Enjoy the last days of autumn as we soon will welcome (?) winter. Mery Christmas to all and enjoy a wonderful holiday.

Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année!
