Many PDCS students are members of the Port Dover Leo Club, a Lions organization for teenagers who are interested in helping their community. The Ontario high school curriculum includes 40 hours of community service that must be completed before graduation. Students can complete their required volunteer time and have fun at the same time by joining the Leo Club. The Port Dover Leo Club will be hard at work this coming year with club fundraisers and activities.
The next meeting will be held on April 23, at St. Paul's Parish Hall in Port Dover. There will be pizza at the meeting (for $1) and musical entertainment will be provided by a student from Waterford. The club is planning the several fundraisers for the upcoming months including a beer bottle collection, a car wash, and possibly a yard sale.
Last year, members of the club spent a day helping at Camp Trillium. In May, Leo Club Treasurer Wade Organ is participating in Camp Trillium's Arm Chair Olympics (a television viewing marathon) to raise funds to send a child to camp for a week. The club's goal is to collect $500 in pledges for this cause. During Port Dover's Spring Celebrations on May 1st, the Leo Club is holding road hockey tournament and hosting a Blacklight Rave Dance (with DJ PYNX Productions) at the arena on the Saturday afternoon and evening.
If you want to get involved in the community and meet new people, come to the Leo Club meeting on April 23.
