Allow me to introduce myself. My names is Mrs. Helen Smith and I am the secretary at Onondaga-Brant School. I have been here for 13 years now. My how time flies. Seems like just yesterday when I first arrived here. I had previously worked at North Ward School in Paris and St. George-German School in St. George.
I'm not new to the school system. I worked for both School Boards prior to this, as a Dental Health Educator with the Brant County Health Unit. After our department closed in 1996. I decided to stay in the school system rather than work in private practice. I loved working in a school setting and with children. The opportunity came up and I took it. I haven't looked back.
I am responsible for the daily attendance, management of the school banking program, the day to day routines that help keep the school running smoothly and efficiently, record keeping, the school newsletter, monthly reports to the Board and the Ministry of Health along with many other duties. It keeps me very busy!
I implemented a family e-list at Onondaga-Brant School to help communiate information to parents more efficiently and to help cut down on the amount of paper we use. We only have 20 families out of 135 that are not on our e-list!
I'm married with two children. My husband is a Health Inspector with the Brant County Health Unit (that is where we met!) and he is also the fire chief for the Cainsville Fire Department which services our school and community.
I am an avid gardener and belong to the Brantford Master Gardeners. I took Horticulturist One, Two and Three through the University of Guelph to obtain my Master Gardener Diploma. Needless to say, I enjoy playing in the garden while I am off for the summer!
My door is always open if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail anytime.
